The Holding Companies mission is to:

Form synergies and partnerships with local and international companies wanting to make meaningful contributions to the advancement of people from the previously disadvantaged groups.

Actively add value to the companies it invests in, without interfering in operations

Create meaningful employment for previously disadvantaged individuals

Create wealth for our shareholders.

Background and Purpose

Background

Generally, empowerment initiatives tend to benefit only a handful of recognised black organisations or individuals. This has led to a concentration of economic power among relatively few black businessmen and women. In only some instances have economic empowerment and wealth creation been extended to include previously disadvantaged individuals at grassroots level.

With this in mind, Inter-Africa Transport Corporation and its group of companies chose an innovative route to empower all previously disadvantaged people

In 2008 Inter-Africa Transport Corporation will establish the Women Development Fund. Through a vehicle called Women Development Trust, this will then enable previously disadvantaged people namely women to acquire a stake in various companies purchased by the Trust and share in the wealth it creates.

Purpose

The purpose of Women Development Trust is to generate wealth for its shareholders, inculcate a culture of investment among previously disadvantaged groups and to create employment opportunities where employees from these groups can learn new skills, which will in turn make them more marketable and prosperous.

An Education Trust will also be established to provide educational programmes to Previous Disadvantaged Individuals who form part of the trust. The Education Trust will concentrate mainly on skills development and Adult Basic Education Training in order to improve the lives of all members who were never fortunate enough to receive a proper education.
