Intelligent Electronic Ticketing System

Inter-Africa Transport Corporation will implement the deployment of an Integrated Fare Management System (IFM) that will be able to charge and/or accept value and/or acknowledge access/regress based around a token or card based system is a must. Whilst not ultimately defined, it is expected to have proximity read functionality, allowing a reloadable card capability, through a set community of point of sale vendors. For the learner solution, cards shall be issued which allows monitoring on and off the vehicle, as well a position reference capability (for pick-up/drop-off), date and time stamping taking place for download/upload to the central database, allowing calculation of service provider invoicing/charging.

For non-learner applications it is a dynamic value placed on card solution, having multiple purses for stored value, with an ability to read and write to the card managing reduction of value, minimising cash handling in a difficult and high risk security environment.

The main interface at the vehicle end will be a multi purpose terminal which incorporates read/write capability of smart chips - contact, as well as proximity read contactless smart cards as well as magnetic stripe, the unit additionally incorporating print roll functionality, for use for other purposes, hence delivering maximum flexibility from the unit on future use. Communications can be in real time via the real time GPRS interface that exists for other technical components on the vehicle. Additionally, the terminal currently identified is one of high durability, shock and drop (even throw/damage) resistant.

The switching architecture that sits remotely/centrally is the nerve centre of the IFM system, linking into a treasury database environment which calculates fares/rides accepted, matching learners and numbers with vehicles, over defined distances and automates calculation of service provider charges/invoices. 5.6.

Treasury

The treasury function undertakes all the calculations and storage of value related transactions, with the ability to fully reconcile all learner movements and associated payments due on pre-defined business rules. As a centralised engine it will request payment from the paying authority, re learner transport, and allocate payment to each service provider. Full data warehousing and storage will allow full audit and recovery of information specific to any query that may occur.

Another key feature of the treasury is to manage the splitting of payments/disbursements at source, allowing the payment to transport service providers net of monthly incurred/committed costs re leasing, insurance, fuel etc. All of these being deducted at source, and distributed to finance houses and service providers, with net revenues being forwarded to the vehicle operating entity. Vehicle operators can view their virtual accounts on the treasury at any time via both a web and cell phone inquiry interface.

Call Centre Support

Whilst there will be a full electronic communications platform down to each vehicle a physical call center environment is still seen as essential to handle issues where communications have failed and/or emergency scenarios arise. Equally, it will form an interface for billing and technical queries, as well as a communications interface for outside parties to obtain information or arrange service provisions

Pre-Paid Electricity

There is a significant market requirement for electricity voucher purchasing and dispensing, the terminal in the vehicle with its real time connectivity functionality will allow for such products and services to be dispensed.

Pre-Paid Cell Phone

Airtime There is a significant market requirement for Pre-Paid Cell Phone Airtime voucher purchasing and dispensing, the terminal in the vehicle with its real time connectivity functionality will allow for such products and services to be dispensed.
